Britney Spears - Radar
Radar was one of the standout tracks from the studio album Blackout. It recieved a high amount of airplay in Ireland and Europe and charted on airplay alone in several countries. It was scheduled to be released as the forth single from Blackout, but due to Britney's declining health, the release was cancelled after the promotional pressing were sent out to media and television. A video was never made.
As the record company had agreed to release the track for its producers Bloodshy & Avant, the track was included on the next album Circus as a bonus track. Due to the songs continuing popularity and the promise of its release, the song is now to be the forth single release from the album.
Chicane - Poppiholla
As its title suggests, 'Poppiholla' is essentially a re swizzled version of Sigur Rós's 'Hoppipolla'. The original is an ambient and ethereal little number popular with nature documentary fans, but Chicane has added trancey beats and the hint of a crescendo to please, if you will, those who like a spoonful of sugar with their coffee. It's a simple but effective reworking, but one that's hard to get too excited about. Still, it should ensure that the name Chicane remains a steadfast fixture on any sun worshipper's playlist.
Ciara ft. Missy Elliott - Work
Ciara tends to rely on guest artists to guarantee herself a hit and to that end she's renewed her "special relationship" with Missy Elliott for new single 'Work'.
Featuring a mish-mash of dance and hip-hop beats, a shouty "Work! Work!" hook, and even the thought-provoking line "You better shake that thang like a donkey!", this bears all the ingredients of a smash, but lacks the killer blow to leave you gasping for air. Still, having already teamed up with Enrique and Justin this year, there's no doubting that Ciara herself knows how to work it.
Mz Bratt - Who Do You Think You Are?
Still only 17 years old Mz Bratt is already an inspirational figure on the UK Urban dance scene, having been taken under the wing of renowned award winning producer Terror Danjah, Mz Bratt has recently appeared as the lead female in T4’s entertainment show Music Cool.
"Who Do You Think You Are?" mashes up grimy, kiss-off versifying and a chorus whose disco-pop directness recalls the glory days of Mel and Kim. Will it be a hit? Britain has a poor record when it comes to knowing how to deal with tiny but terrifying in-yer-face female rappers. But Mz Bratt sounds like someone who knows where she’s going; her “reply” records to Tinchy Stryder and Wiley hits have earned her acclaim, and a collaboration with Jazmine Sullivan, the American R&B newcomer and Missy Elliott protégée, suggests she’s setting her sights high.
Pitbull - I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)
What is it about summer that makes the British public lose their sense of musical decency? It only takes a few days of 30° heat, a cheap package deal to Magaluf and a jug of Woo Woo and suddenly the 'Macarena' sounds like a long-lost nugget of Latin-pop genius.
'I Know You Want Me', however, finds Pitbull trying his hand at the latest hip-hop craze - mixing rap and Eurodance. Featuring the sampled-to-death brass from Chicago's 'Street Player' and the lecherous refrain "I know you want me, you know I want cha", this track doesn't seem like it can sink much lower. But then it does. Pitbull starts rapping in Spanish ("Que ola Cata, Que ola Omega"), he brags about having a girl in his "cockpit", and somehow manages to slip in a rhyme about Alfred Hitchcock. Even five fishbowl cocktails and a foam party couldn't make this drivel bearable.
